AUTUMN KIT, STEP BY STEP

It isn't about applying five products all at once. It's about knowing what to give, when to give it and in what order.

Prepare Sow Root Protect Feed

Before you startFor cool-season grasses, September–October is one of the windows LERAVA indicates for new sowing and overseeding. In areas that are still very hot and in full sun, don't go by the calendar alone: wait until the strong heat has passed and soil temperatures have stabilised. Don't regenerate a lawn in the middle of a heatwave just because September has arrived.

Day 0 Aerator — prepares the soil

Spread it 7 days before sowing.

Aerator does not fix structurally poor soil. If the soil is extremely compacted, clayey or doesn't hold water properly, the base has to be sorted out first.

Details

Purpose:

  • help thatch break down;
  • stimulate microbial activity in the soil;
  • prepare the surface for regeneration.

If Aerator leaves decomposed organic material on the surface, rake it off by hand before sowing. Don't leave a thick layer of residue on the lawn.

Days 1–6 Let Aerator work

Nothing to add: the work is on thatch and soil activity.

Day 7 Preparing for overseeding

The seed has to be able to reach the soil.

Details
  1. Mow the lawn short, roughly 2–3 cm.
  2. Remove dead material and leftover thatch. Where needed you can scarify, which opens the turf and clears the areas taken up by dead grass.
  3. Check that in the bare patches the seed can actually reach the soil.

Don't simply sow on top of a thick layer of dead grass or thatch.

Day 7 Express — the sowing

More seed in the gaps, lighter over the rest.

Overseeding has to stay compatible with the existing lawn: Express is not a universal seed for every turf.

Details

When overseeding: concentrate the seed on empty or thinned areas and, if useful, spread a lighter amount over the rest of the area.

Express stands out for very fast growth and is linked in particular to cool, high-mountain climates.

Right after Light covering

Seed → contact with soil → light covering.

Details

Cover the seed with peat or topsoil:

  • new sowing: about 0.5 cm;
  • bare patches when overseeding: no more than about 1 cm.

The point is not to bury the seed.

Same day Starter + ant protection

Correct order: seed, peat, Starter.

For the amount and application of the ant product, follow the official label on the pack, not doses taken from other products.

Details

Starter goes in during the sowing phase itself: don't wait two or three weeks, that will be Marathon's moment.

Ant protection goes in during the same phase.

Same day Rolling

A key step, don't skip it.

Details

Rolling the whole treated area serves to:

  • increase contact between seed and soil;
  • stabilise the covering;
  • encourage more even germination;
  • make it harder for seed to be displaced.
Right after First watering

Wet the seedbed thoroughly, without waterlogging.

Details

One generous watering across the whole area. In the new-sowing procedure the reference is roughly a good 30 minutes.

Days 1–14 Germination — moist yes, waterlogged no

The most delicate phase of the whole protocol.

A puddle doesn't improve germination: it can compromise the seed and make moisture-related problems worse.

Which job are you doing?

4–5 waterings a day

4–5 waterings a day of 10–15 minutes for about 2 weeks, always with a rain-type spray.

3–5 waterings a day

3–5 waterings a day of about 10 minutes, always with a rain-type spray.

Day 14–21 Marathon — the feeding

It goes in once the new growth has started to establish.

Details

The gap from Starter matters: Starter on day 0, Marathon about two weeks later.

It is a slow-release organo-mineral fertiliser. The consultation material shows it applied in the morning followed by watering; for dosage, go by the pack.

Week 3–4 First cut — the one-third rule

Look at the actual height of the grass, not just the calendar.

Details

Never remove more than a third of the plant's height in one go. If the grass reaches 9 cm, don't take it straight to 4 cm: remove about 3 cm and leave it around 6 cm.

The windows can overlap: Marathon about 2–3 weeks after sowing, first cut about 3–4 weeks after, when the height allows. Don't force the cut just to keep to the calendar.

Dosage and application: always follow the official label of each product. Watering amounts should be adapted to the soil, the exposure and the actual temperatures.
